‘About the Author’ (Short, Cliff-Notes Version)
My name is Ploose. I am a girl. I am a woman. And I have been through the experiences I write and illustrate about. I no longer want to watch girls presence and power be belittled by her peers, society, nor by herself. I want to help my girls find their voices. To be a girl does not equate to dependency, weakness, or inferiority. To be a girl is and should be synonymous to being powerful, amazing, and limitless! Invest yourself in being the best girl you can be!

All of the kids teased me, sometimes even my own best friend. As far as I can remember, I was teased in some shape or form either because of my southern diction, the darkness of my skin, my skinny body build, or all of the above, from the moment I moved to California in the 5th grade up until the moment I graduated from high school. Or at least that’s the time period of which I actually stressed over it and cared a lot about how others perceived me. I cared so much so that it affected my self-esteem and confidence and these are two things that take time and effort to build back up.
In high school, I felt like I could never win. So I was faced with the dilemma: hold my true-self in and conform to society’s norms that everyone seemed ok and unbothered by or continue to be myself and creatively express myself as I saw fit and not care what people thought or openly expressed. Thank God I chose the latter. Although life could have been so (I mean soooo) much easier, it would have been boring and I would not have grown to be the woman I am today.

I go by Ploose Dandridge, a nickname my father gave me when I was a little girl. I am a writer, illustrator, sweets-addict, and fashion lover. I am passionate about leaving the world a better place than how I found it. I believe in girl power, equality, justice and fairness. I write and illustrate children’s books as a way to share my experiences, not only with bullying, but also with low self-esteem, shyness, discrimination, fear and anxiety, peer pressure, and other issues I dealt with growing up.
Through my experiences, along with research and the occasional help from experts, I will educate young girls on how to cope with fear, stress and other issues and emotions girls face — in a fun, safe and fashionable way. We are in a day in age where it is essential that we develop healthy images of ourselves, and at a much younger age than before. It is time for girls to see the “cool-ness”in embracing themselves and conquering their dreams, no matter what. And I intend to show just that. So welcome to L’imagination de Ce`Marie! Stick around for the adventures, you have now joined the movement!
